GIDDINGS & LEWIS 70-E4-T machine tool is a CNC controlled horizontal boring machine designed for drilling and reaming operations on large and/or critical components. It features a rigid construction, advanced milling motor technology, and a range of controls and automation options. The machine is equipped with a 4.5 inch diameter spindle on a six-axis arrangement, with horizontal and rotary axes to the workpiece. It has a spindle range of 100-5,000 RPM and a torque range of 11-500 Nm. The spindle is supported by a large support structure with crossed roller bearings for maximum rigidity. Travel on the horizontal and vertical axes is approximately 3,000 mm and 1,000 mm respectively. The machine is equipped with Feed-Through Milling (FTM) technology to handle flexibly and efficiently a wide range of general and special purpose operations. The FTM control can be switchable from 2 to 4 axis operation with up to four different cutting tools. The machine is also capable of performing solid boring, contouring and positioning the workpiece accurately. 70-E4-T is available with a range of coolant delivery systems, including dry and wet systems. A Schneider NUM 1060 CNC controller is standard with the machine, providing features such as reduced setting time, and manual, semi, and full-automatic operations. This 3-axis system is also available with a Fanuc 15M control. A range of automation and custom engineering solutions are available to suit specific applications, including pallet changers, magazine tool changers, and dual spindle technology. Options such as a tool presetting unit, an automatic head-changer, and a hydraulic clamping system, can also be added.
