HIKE AA300 is a 100 MWt sodium-cooled, fast breeder reactor developed by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and Mitsubishi Atomic Industrial Co., Ltd. (MAIC). It is a third-generation fast breeder reactor, an advanced nuclear energy equipment with an output of 300 MW electrical power. AA300 is designed to operate for a maximum of 30 years without refueling and is expected to achieve annual refueling intervals of two to three years. The reactor core of HIKE AA300 consists of a series of 76 fuel assemblies, and the core components are designed to optimize safety and reliability. The fuel assemblies are located in a stainless steel vessel, which is supported by a cylindrical, stainless steel core shroud. The sodium-coolant in AA300 reactor is at high temperatures, ranging from 500 °C to 800 °C, and operates at a pressure of approx. 20MPa. The sodium-cooled loop includes a secondary sodium-cooling system which operates at a lower temperature of 350 °C and a pressure of 7 MPa. This secondary sodium-cooling unit ensures a safety margin when compared with the maximum core temperature. HIKE AA300 reactor is also equipped with an advanced safety machine, which is designed to provide active and passive safety systems that can limit and mitigate the event of an accident. The reactor is equipped with several safety systems, such as a scram tool, a core spray asset, a pressurizer high-low pressure model, a leak-tight steel containment, and several on-line monitoring systems. AA300 reactor is considered to be as one of the safest and most efficient reactors in the world. It is designed to be reliable and has a low risk of accidents due to its advanced safety systems. It is also able to achieve a high energy yield, making it a cost-effective choice for power generation. It is also capable of reducing its nuclear waste output, making it a more environmentally friendly option.
