TES Challenger 300 reactor is a commercial, off-the-shelf process scaleup heat exchanger and reactor designed and manufactured by Thermal Engineering Services Inc. (TES). Utilizing state-of-the-art flow modeling and thermodynamic simulations along with proven reactor designs, TES produces a wide range of process development and scaleup reactors for operation in the laboratory to the commercial plant. The operating temperature of Challenger 300 reactor is limited to 300°C, but it can reach pressures up to 15 Bar (150 kPa) in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 1 requirements. The standard materials of construction are 3.2mm thick stainless steel with rate 316L inner and S31699 or Inconel600 outer shells. Extension of either the pressure or temperature is possible by special agreement with the manufacturer. TES Challenger 300 reactor is designed to promote uniform internal heating and mixing from three selectable mixing configurations (direct steam, bath heating and heat conducting oil). The internal mixing mechanism consists of a controlled number of paddles that generate turbulent mixing to accelerate the process. Additionally, the reactor has an integrated vessel jacket for jacket cooling or heating applications. The external connection or 'calandria' has two ¾" NPT connections to provide feed and product circulation with an integrated drain valve for easy drain off of finished product or the use of sample taps. Challenger 300 reactor is designed to be energy-efficient and easy to use. It has a low energy requirement of 18.74 kW/m3, making it a viable option in processes that require high energy intensity. The vented vessel design safely removes any process related exhaust and allows tight control over the product produced. Its easy- access connections make it an ideal solution for process scaleup and basic experimentation. Designed for cleanroom operation, TES Challenger 300 reactor meets USDA, FDA, and 3A sanitation requirements for use in areas subject to stringent hygiene protocols. The reactor has an internal and external surface finished with Matt grinding 0.8 micron to 8.5 micron and is resistant to clean-in-place detergents and concentrations that allow WIP at low temperatures. Challenger 300 is a safe and reliable option for process development and scaleup. With its control system featuring local and remote access capabilities, the reactor offers flexibility and peace of mind for operators.
