CAMECA SX-50-350 is an energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer. It consists of a sample stage, x-ray tube, three optical assemblies, and a x-ray detector. The sample is exposed to an excitation beam of x-rays that results in the emission of characteristic x-ray rays of the constituent elements in the sample. The x-ray tube is a fixed anode, dual target spectrometer operating at 50kV and 350µA. The three optical assemblies used includes a stationary mirror and a primary and secondary collimator to collect the fluorescence from the sample over the wide angular coverage of the EDXRF technique. The x-ray detector is a cooled-silicon drift detector (SDD) specifically designed for the most accurate detection of elemental concentrations. The spectrometer is equipped with an embedded operating and data collection software which allows the user to perform data acquisition, peak identification, and also manage the results. It offers different measurement modes like full spectrum scans, fixed spectral region scans, iron corrected scans, and linear combination analysis. In addition, the open-source software can also be used for further analysis of the acquired data. The spectrometer has a high sensitivity in the range of ppb to %. It is capable of analyzing trace elements with spectral resolution of better than 0.1 eV (FWHM) along with excellent detection limits. The superior linearity and accuracy performance are due to its superior energy performance. It also offers low noise and low drift values for improved reproducible data. The spectrometer is suitable for diverse applications, including surface coatings, geochemical exploration, metal alloys or composites, semiconductor processing, contaminants in environmental samples, and many others. The system is designed to ensure reliable operation and accurate results, making it an ideal tool for trace elemental analysis.
