ENGIS FL-24V Wafer Grinding, Lapping and Polishing Equipment is a fully automated system designed for production solutions as well as for R&D applications. This unit is capable of generating flat, consistent surfaces on both wafers up to 200mm in diameter as well as substrates up to 6" x 6". The machine is configured with two process areas, a main grinding area and a separate polishing area. The grinding area has a 24Vdc spindle motor with a frequency of up to 10,000 rpm. This allows for both precision grinding and conditioning of wafers. The conditioning process removes minor surface non-homogeneities. Following the grinding process, the wafer is processed in the polishing area. The polishing area also utilizes a 24Vdc motor, with a frequency of up to 3,000 rpm, to ensure a highly accurate and consistent polishing process. In order to achieve consistent surface finishes, the tool is configured with a touch-sensitive stylus module capable of detecting small scratches. Additionally, a digital microscope is incorporated with the asset to measure the surface finish. This microscope provides a monitor image of the surface to the user, allowing them to take corrective action if needed. As part of the integrated design of FL-24V model, the entire grinding and polishing process is automated and can be programmed to start and stop depending on the parameters set by the user. This eliminates the guesswork associated with manual processes and ensures that repeatability is achieved. Furthermore, the equipment is equipped with an Air Floatation Table, used to suspend the wafers or substrates enabling a stable grinding and polishing process. This helps ensure that the quality of the final product is consistent across different batches.
