AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS HCT is an advanced crystal growing, sawing, and slicing system developed by AMAT. It is capable of generating and cutting high-precision single-crystal materials that can be used in a variety of applications. AMAT HCT system includes an extensive suite of features and performance capabilities, including the ability to produce high-quality crystals at a high rate, to cut and slice with high precision, and to maintain material integrity during the process. APPLIED MATERIALS HCT has a building chamber filled with a single-crystal substrate heated to precise temperatures continuously over a many-day period by a gas or electric heater. During crystal growth, the chamber is driven by a tungsten filament and heated with either a microwave source or an alternating current RF source. The evaporated material is monitored and, when necessary, a vapour-liquid supply is fed into the chamber to reduce inversion. In order to ensure high quality and uniform crystals, HCT's RF and microwave sources are designed to induce specific crystallization and growth rates. An RF pulse generator delivers microwaves into the chamber, vaporizing the material that needs to be grown. This phase of the process is extremely critical, as only small amounts of varied material are used per growth cycle. This allows for efficient production of custom crystal structures suited for specific customer applications and assemblies. Once the crystal is grown, AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS HCT's sawing and slicing processes use a high-precision saw to cut the large crystal into smaller, more uniform pieces. Specific dimensions can be achieved through custom cuts and slicing capabilities, and the respective pieces can also be marked and programmed for use in a variety of applications. The saw can move up to 9 axes: X, Y, and Z positioner plus tilting, rotating, and lifting mechanisms. This allows for ultra-precise cuts and movement not available with traditional saw methods. Finally, AMAT HCT has multiple programs for in-situ testing. This includes measurements such as etch rate, surface roughness, reflectivity, contact angle, and more. These measurements allow customers to analyze the crystal's suitability for their application and to make any necessary modifications before using the material in production. All told, APPLIED MATERIALS HCT is an advanced single-crystal growing, sawing, and slicing system capable of producing high-quality crystal components for a wide variety of applications.
