APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS / ABI / MDS SCIEX API 3200 is a powerful, versatile quadrupole-based spectrometer designed to provide accurate, reliable detection and analysis of small molecules and proteins. The unit utilizes two ionization sources, electrospray and multiplexed atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (MPACP), to generate ions for mass analysis. ABI API 3200 combines these two ionization techniques to provide increased sensitivity, dynamic range and scan speed. MDS SCIEX API 3200 comprises an entry port, transfer line, quadrupole mass filter, detector, and amplifier/demodulator housed in its vacuum chamber. The entry port consists of the electrospray inlet, source dampers and source backing pressure. The transfer line functions as a vacuum restrictor and supplies neutral gas to the API ion source for ionization. The quadrupole mass filter is a four-rod system designed to select desired ion masses based on the ion's specific mass-to-charge ratio. The detector collects ions in the quadruple filter and transmits the data to a computer where it is translated into a mass spectrum. The spectrum is recorded and displayed as an X-Y plot of intensity versus mass-to-charge ratio. API 3200's amplifier and demodulator provide the power needed to compensate for any voltage drop in the transfer line and to smooth the peaks in the mass spectrum. APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS API 3200 is ideal for numerous analytical applications including determination of elemental composition, isotope ratios, and elemental or molecular ratios. It is also widely used for peptide and protein fragmentation analysis, for identification of unknown compounds and for successive monitoring of reaction kinetics. The advanced features of APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS / ABI / MDS SCIEX API 3200 make it an ideal tool for both routine and complex analysis in a variety of scientific fields. The instrument is highly sensitive and can detect small molecules and proteins down to the attomole level. Furthermore, its multiple ionization techniques allow for faster and more accurate analysis. The powerful data manipulation and analysis software also help make ABI API 3200 an ideal tool for analytical chemistry.
