Dual time bases.
TEKTRONIX 7B53A is a 400 MHz dual-channel analog oscilloscope made by TEKTRONIX and released in 1975. It is a single-beam instrument which is capable of displaying both time and voltage in both the horizontal and vertical axes. 7B53A is constructed using two vacuum tubes, a TCR-203 Tubeset and a 6BK4 Electron Multiplier: These two components constitute the basic oscilloscope circuit. The TCR-203 is an all-pentode oscilloscope sweep amplifier and the 6BK4 is a gain-controlled (variable) electron-multiplier intended for use as a single-tube video amplifier. The overall performance of TEKTRONIX 7B53A is impressive for its age. With its two channels, it is capable of a 400 MHz equivalent time sampling rate on a single channel, or a 250 MHz equivalent time sampling rate on both channels. All models are equipped with double-triggering which allows for both an internal and external triggering source. The external triggering is lost on versions prior to 7B53A. It offers three different sweep control modes including a single shot, rapid single, or continuous sweep. TEKTRONIX 7B53A is also equipped with a vertical sensitivity range from 20 mV/div to 1 V/div, and up to two volts/division common mode. Its vertical accuracy is 0.4%. Horizontal accuracy is 0.3%. 7B53A also has a voltage-controlled 5 MHz low-pass filter. TEKTRONIX 7B53A also has ample input protection. It is equipped with two level-sensitive input protecor modules, 4-100 MΩ divider networks, adjustable triggering level protection, and an adjustable trigger holdoff point. The external triggering level can be set from -2 V up to +6 V. The sensitivity sensitivity is adjustable from 10 mV up to 50 mV. The front panel of 7B53A is elegantly laid out. All the controls are located on the right side with readouts at the top center including controls for vertical positioning (POS), vertical sensitivity (SEN), vertical sensing polarity (POL), and horizontal compression, and expansion (COMP/EXP). On the left side of the front panel, are the two input connectors, the two Triggering controls (TRIG) and the external triggering connection (EXT). Overall, TEKTRONIX 7B53A is a powerful yet classic analog oscilloscope. It offers ample performance features such as a wide range of vertical and horizontal signals analysis, adjustable triggering levels, multiple sweep control modes, and input protection. The design of the front panel makes 7B53A an ideal choice for those who seek an instrument with a classic design while still providing efficient performance.
