SIR S-5001 is a residual gas analyzer (RGA) used for the analysis of various types of gases. It uses a quadrupole mass spectrometer to analyze and report the composition of residual gasses in a variety of applications. S-5001 utilizes a quadropole array in which ions of various species are separated and detected based on their mass-to-charge ratio. This Quadrupole Mass Analyzer (QMA) consists of four parallel rods with a lens assembly and extraction system for gaseous ions. These rods are enclosed in a vacuum chamber. When measuring residual gases, SIR S-5001 utilizes a vacuum exhaust pump allowing the sample to be isolated in a closed system. A user-defined partial pressure is then applied to the sample before the measured gas is introduced into the QMA and analyzed. With a high-quality residual gas analyzer, the QMA filters out ions that cannot pass through the quadrupole, such as isotopes of the same element, or elements with higher abundances than the species being measured.
