AGILENT / HP / HEWLETT-PACKARD / KEYSIGHT 4286A is an electronic test equipment that is used for accurately measuring impedances, analysing frequency-response characteristics of filters and other circuit components, or for calibrating analog components/modules. It is a multi-purpose instrument that can be used for a wide range of complex high-frequency circuit measurements and debugging tasks. HP 4286A consists of a mainframe unit, containing the powering supply and control/interface circuitry, which connects to a variety of plug-in modules. In order to ensure adequate current and power consumption, the mainframe is intended to be connected to 115V/50Hz power, but can function also with any voltage/frequency between 100V and 250V/47 Hz. The mainframe unit has a wide range of functions, such as the measurement of different types of impedances up to 10MHz and low-frequency complex impedance up to 1MHz. It also provides the possibility of low-pass, high-pass or band-pass filter characteristics with sub-millisecond settling time and for DC-coupled circuits, complex frequency response analysis at frequencies up to 10MHz. These measurements are supported by a variety of input and output configurations, e.g. 50Ω termination, compensated electrodes, built-in precision resistors, precise voltage sources and sample-and-hold circuits. Connections to external circuits can be made through the BNC connector, and the instrument provides also the functionality of controlling counter and frequency counters as well as data transfer to PCs using the GPIB interface. Moreover, AGILENT 4286A offers features aimed to enhance the experience of the user when making measurements, such as automatic and manual damping capabilities, self-test procedures and the on-screen help texts for thorough understanding of the functions. In conclusion, 4286A is a highly capable and intuitive piece of electronic test equipment that has numerous applicable use cases for the needs of a wide variety of applications, ranging from the calibration of analog circuits to filter/impedance measurements, with the possibility of being easily connected to PCs and controlled through the GPIB interface.
