AGILENT / HP / HEWLETT-PACKARD / KEYSIGHT 83752A lightwave component analyzer is a fully automated test equipment designed for turn-key characterization of photonic components in optical communications systems. It allows users to measure key performance parameters of fiber optic components such as relative electrical insertion loss, relative optical insertion loss, polarisation dependence loss, spectral reflectance, chromatic dispersion, polarisation mode dispersion and absolute optical return loss. HP 83752A operates in the 850nm-1950nm wavelength range with a spectral resolution of 0.2nm. It features a built-in tunable laser diode (TLD) for automated optical and electrical characterization of a range of optical components. AGILENT 83752A uses a patented micro-machined infrared electro-absorption modulator (EAM) technology for the absolute optical return loss (ORL) measurements, offering unprecedented performance and accuracy. The EAM is based on a simple push-pull optical configuration, consisting of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) driving a variable length optical path. The variable path length is achieved by altering the voltage applied to the electrical bias of the EAM, allowing precision control of the path length. KEYSIGHT 83752A operates with a pulse source on the Laser Diode Terminals (LDT), with burst clock of 1GHz (1ns)/2.5GHz (0.4ns), offering up to 30dB power range. The optical power is divided into 15 different positions levels with step widths down to 0.25dB. It performs automatic power sweeps of all 15 positions to give the curve, from which laser behavior parameters such as optical loss, modal noise and back-reflection can be determined. The internal test fixtures enable a wide range of transmission and reflection measurements. When coupled to the dedicated 81737A and 81738A, the analyzer can work with all kinds of fiber with various numerical apertures (NAs), including single-mode and multimode. The 5-port head, containing four photodiodes, allows to make all kinds of optical measurements in both the forward and reverse directions. 83752A is also equipped with an intuitive GUI, offering an easy way to control all the features of the analyzer and making data acquisition, analysis and reporting straightforward. The PC user interface includes a report generator for ease of test report production, with all the acquired data and comments on the tested components. HEWLETT-PACKARD 83752A has comprehensive onboard help for all the user interface, giving fast and comprehensive access to all the instrument parameters.
