AGILENT / HP / HEWLETT-PACKARD / KEYSIGHT 8647A is a signal generator that is capable of generating analog and digital signals. It is a synthesized sweeping signal generator, providing phase-locked CW or modulated signals up to 650 MHz. This device is suitable for many R&D and manufacturing RF / microwave measurements and applications, such as swept spectrum analysis of receivers, signal synthesis, signal pulse measurements, and amplitude and frequency modulation. HP 8647A is capable of producing very clean signals with low harmonic distortion and wideband spurious spectral components due to its low phase noise and built-in intermodulation protection. It has a very high dynamic range and a frequency tunability range of 10Hz to 650MHz with a relatively high output level of 17dBm (max). It also has excellent amplitude ranges from -46dBm to + 17dBm, along with excellent frequency sweeps with frequencies up to 200MHz and a variable sweep rate control. In addition, AGILENT 8647A is equipped with an advanced analog-style modulation feature that provides FM, PM, linear and logarithmic sweep (or chirp), FSK and ASK modulation capabilities. These can be user programmed and selectable using the front panel menu. The chirp sweep mode is especially useful for fast Fourier transform (FFT) amplitude simulations. 8647A has a 16-bit resolution input to the internal frequency synthesizer. It also has a built-in pulse generator with pulse widths up to 10μs and microprocessor-controlled hardware and software to enable user control of the system. Furthermore, it is also equipped with a wide range of user-programmable control parameters including frequency, pulsing, modulation, chirping and setting of output power levels. This potent device can be coupled with up to two independent external scalar network analyzers, allowing users to create a wide range of test systems.
