EXFO WA-7100 is an all-in-one, handheld, battery-operated electronic test equipment. This waveform analyzer is designed for performing cable qualification tests, including time domain reflectometry (TDR) and relative loss measurements, in the field. WA-7100's dual-mode operation makes it possible to switch between a basic and an advanced mode of operation, allowing the instrument to be used by technicians of different levels of expertise. In the basic mode of operation, EXFO WA-7100 allows technicians to quickly and accurately initiate TDR measurements and analyze the results displayed on a 5-inch LCD color touch screen. The TDR measurement is performed by sending a short-pulse signal down a cable and monitoring the reflections it produces. By plotting the reflections against the distance, technicians can determine the cable length, material properties and the exact location of any defects. WA-7100's correlation-based algorithm also offers the ability to identify the type and cause of a defect. In the advanced mode of operation, EXFO WA-7100 is capable of performing relative loss measurements for tone and remote backscatter measurements. This test procedure allows technicians to measure the relative loss of a tone signal, such as a pulse echo, propagating through a cable or a system. A remote backscatter measurement is a fast and easy way to identify the location of faults without disturbing the operation of a system. WA-7100 is also capable of displaying frequency response and related data in the time domain for evaluating gain, insertion loss, signal-to-noise ratio, and distortion. In addition to its test capabilities, EXFO WA-7100 also includes features to facilitate the cable qualification process. It offers a comprehensive set of predefined Cable Qualification Standards (CQS) and comprehensive onscreen annotations that help technicians and engineers validate the TDR measurement results. The instrument is also capable of remotely controlling and receiving test results from EXFO FOCIS fiberscopes, allowing technicians to locate defects and analyze Fiber TDR results for small diameters. For extending the battery life of the instrument, WA-7100 includes a power-saving feature that automatically turns off the instrument if no activities are performed when the device is idle. The instrument is also dustproof, waterproof and shockproof, making it suitable for operation in harsh field environments. Weighing just 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs) with an ergonomic design, EXFO WA-7100 is the ideal choice for field technicians who require portability and flexibility when performing cable qualification tasks.
