JDSU OLP-55 is a handheld optical loss/reflectometer test instrument used in the telecommunication industry. It is designed to measure optical return loss (ORL) and optical reflectance at both 1310 and 1550 nanometers (nm). It assesses the quality of fiber optic cable segments and connectors in fiber optic networks, as well as troubleshooting, FTTx installation and maintenance. OLP-55 features a variable reference value used for the compares return loss and reflectance of the cable segment under test to determine the pass/fail status of the segment. Two display modes are available: real-time display (ENO) and absolute (ABS). In ENO mode, the display shows a real-time graph of the change in ORL or reflectance during the test, enabling technicians to verify the quality of the fiber optic link quickly and accurately. The device also includes three user-defined limits for automatic comparison and marking of fiber attenuation in ENO mode. JDSU OLP-55 can be used with a variety of OLP accessories such as launch boxes, connectors, and universal optical mated receptacles, designed to expedite testing and prevent damage. It can transmit the ORL or reflectance test results to the PC or serial port via a USB port or RS232 connection, and can store measurements on an SD memory card. OLP-55 also features automated ORL and reflectance calibration and certification, making this testing device an essential tool for assurance programs. It is enabled with OLP Express software, which provides a data management and report generation solution for completing quality assurance jobs. In addition, JDSU OLP-55 is a highly portable device which enables testing at sites where access is restricted and space is limited.
