MFJ-MFJ 969 is an advanced electronic test equipment designed to assist radio amateurs in tuning their antennas and amplifiers. It is capable of accurately measuring complex impedance parameters such as SWR, return loss, input/output match, input/output isolation, mismatch loss, insertion loss and power transfer. The instrument also provides a wide range of useful features such as SWR plotting, resonance frequency/frequency response analysis, a built-in frequency generator and an impedance time-domain display. MFJ-969 consists of two units: a main receiver and a control unit. The main receiver consists of a Free Space waveguide antenna, a band pass filter, a high linearity amplifier, a wide frequency range mixer, a variable-gain amplifier, an antenna port selector and a Termination-match-Load (TML) assembly. The antenna port selector allows for the selection of a single wide bandwidth antenna port (input and output) and allows for impedance measurements up to 3 GHz. The control unit consists of an array of buttons, a frequency display, a large four-digit backlit LCD display, and a rotary knob. The LCD display shows the impedance parameters (VSWR, Return Loss, Input/Output Match, Input/Output Isolation, Mismatch Loss, Insertion Loss, and Power Transfer) being measured. The rotary knob allows for quick navigation between the impedance parameters. The frequency display shows the last used frequency, and the backlit LCD display and buttons allow easy reading of the measured values. Additionally, MFJ-MFJ 969 features a built-in signal generator which is used to generate frequency sweeps and single frequency signals to enable accurate measurement of antenna return loss and antenna time-domain display. In addition to the core measurement capabilities, MFJ-969 also offers several features to facilitate antenna design and tuning. It provides several antenna plotting tools that pipe the measured impedance parameters to a computer for further analysis and display of the antenna's characteristics. It also provides a Resonance Frequency (RF) Analysis/Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) feature which can be used to graphically map out the impedance profile of the antenna being tested. In conclusion, MFJ-MFJ 969 is a versatile and useful test equipment designed to aid radio amateurs in designing and tuning their antennas. With its combination of advanced measurement capabilities and graphical plotting features, MFJ-969 gives amateurs the complete tool set they need to ensure that their antennas perform optimally.
