GAERTNER L116 is a state-of-the-art automated Spectroscopic Ellipsometer designed for a wide range of applications. L116 offers accurate and repeatable measurements of film thickness, refractive index, and optical constants of a range of materials with a thickness between 5 nm and 4 um. The equipment consists of a high accuracy spectrometer and mount, an ellipsometric instrument, a controller, a sample carousel, PC interface, and software. The system operates on a wavelength range of 300 - 1100 nm with a resolution of 0.2 nm. The unit allows for simultaneous measurement of spectroscopic ellipsometry and angle-resolved spectroscopy. The measurement range is 0-90° with an accuracy of 0.01°. The ellipsometer maintains high performance through its unique features. An internal macroboard allows special procedures to be implemented, while auto-alignment of each sample ensures stable performance and repeatable and consistent results. Its reflectance and transmission detectors lay the basis for accurate and complete measurement of all unknown film characteristics. The machine is able to measure a large number of samples with the carousel, according to the application requirements. GAERTNER L116 is extremely user friendly. The interface includes maneuverable graphic displays, a simple command language and a remote control Microdeck tool. It also offers an LCD display for device control setup, real time film thickness, automatic sample carousel and multiple measurements. Moreover, the asset can also be connected to a PC for post- processing of the ellipsometric data. L116 is suitable for many research applications, such as characterizing chemical and physical properties of thin films. For example, measurements of optical constants, film thickness, refractive index and extinction coefficients of numerous thin film deposited on various substrates can be measured. Furthermore, GAERTNER L116 can be applied for quality control of semiconductor devices. The model is successfully used in applications ranging from semiconductor- and microelectronics- to coating- and medical-related fields.
