It supports automated test and programming of devices up to 1600 pins wide in parallel. The system is comprised of a mainframe unit, up to four modular boards, up to four interface boards, and a control PC. The mainframe unit consumes approximately 1100W of power to perform its primary functions - evaluating signals, generating test vectors and programming devices. It provides an adjustable 115-230V AC power input, an Ethernet port for connecting to the PC, as well as a variety of connectors for power and I/Os which are used to access the device under test. The modular boards, or 'test boards', can be configured to access up to 800 pins per board and when combined with the interface boards can support up to 1600 pins. Each modular board contains the TAP interface and a universal pin drive for testing all pin types. This allows users to switch between different pin drive voltages on-the-fly and removes the need to switch boards when switching from high voltage to low voltage I/Os. The interface boards provide additional features such as high speed probing (6.25 GHz probing), analog or digital test signal conditioning and levels, and translation between different logic technologies. The interface boards also provide additional options for data manipulation during testing. Additionally, the system includes a control PC which is used to control the system hardware, generate and modify test plans, and store/retrieve device programming data. The control PC has the ability to access the mainframe via an Ethernet connection and it is running HP test development and test execution software.
