Q Lab Q-LAB QUV / Spray / RP is a comprehensive line of high-performance testing equipment and accessories used to simulate natural weathering processes, such as exposure to ultraviolet (UV), acid rain, and ozone (O3) gases. The QUV Accelerated Weathering Tester is a laboratory instrument that is designed to replicate the natural effects of sunlight, and is used to test a wide variety of materials including paints, coatings, plastics, and composites in laboratory conditions. The QUV, which stands for "Quartz Ultraviolet", is designed to expose test specimens to ultraviolet fluence, heat, condensation, and water spray. The QUV is equipped with four 85-watt blacklight fluorescent lamps that produce the light spectrum in the range of 290nm to 400nm, which is similar to the sun's light spectrum of 290nm to 380nm. The light is controlled by the testing system, and samples can be exposed to periods of UV light and then halted, depending on the application. The Spray/RP (Rain/Salt/Sand/Spray) testing chamber is used to simulate the effects of acid rain, salty environments, and wind-blown sand. The testing chamber is fitted with both a spray wand and an adjustable rotor plate that distributes the spray evenly over the test sample. It is designed to spray warm or cool water, either as a mist or light rain, creating a wide variety of environmental conditions. The chamber is also equipped with a salt solution spray system and a sand wheel for simulating salt fog and wind-blown sand environments. The Spray/RP test chamber is strategically designed to minimize carryover of the salt and sand while optimizing the test sample coverage. The RP testing chamber is used to simulate the effects of ozone (O3) gases. The chamber is fitted with three ozone generators, with each one inoculating the chamber with purified ozone gases. The test specimens are placed in the chamber and exposed to the gaseous ozone for specific testing periods.
