ESI 5210 is a diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) infrared laser. The laser cavity is comprised of an Nd:YVO4 rod optically and thermally mounted inside a single-ended copper heat-sink, which is in-turn contained in a copper-aluminum housing for thermal control and output collimation. The laser oscillator cavity includes an input coupler, output coupler, and two intracavity optical isolators that prevent back reflections. The laser output has a free-space wavelength of 1064nm, and is polarized perpendicular to the plane of the Nd:YVO4 rod. Pulse energies of up to 50mJ, peak powers of up to 40kW, and pulse widths of up to 3 nanoseconds can be generated from 5210. The laser is pumped by a fiber-coupled diode laser module delivering up to 800W of 808nm optical power into the Nd:YVO4 gain rod. The pump light is collimated, mode-cleaned in a single-mode quartz fiber, and then injected into the laser rod via pump reflectors. The pump beam is transverse-ovoid shaped and elliptical-focused to match the shape of the rod. The pump absorber is constructed using a metropol mirrored cavity, while a matched thermal and optical lens is used before the end of the cavity. An integral safety shutter, which has the capability to provide clean optical shutoff, is also provided as an additional safety feature. The laser's cavity is additionally temperature-stabilized by a thermoelectric cooling equipment and an internal temperature feedback loop based on a thermistor located in the Nd:YVO4 rod. This advanced system helps maintain the laser cavity temperature within a precision of ±0.1°C. The laser head can be interfaced with its accompanying electronics by either a direct connection or via fiber for long-distance operation. An additional feature offered by the unit is a modulation port which provides an output for control of operating parameters, timing and quality of the output pulses in addition to the modulation of the laser's repetition rate and output power. As an integrated machine, ESI 5210 is designed for operation in environments with ambient air temperatures of 10°C to 40°C, air pressure of 860 mbar to 1060 mbar, and relative humidity of 30 to 70%. The unique design of the laser provides free space output with excellent beam quality and unparalleled power stability. These specifications make this laser ideal for a wide range of industrial, medical, scientific, and research applications.
