WOP FemtoLAB is a femtosecond laser equipment that uses Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze materials without sample preparation. The system includes a 10 kHz FemtoLAB femtosecond laser, a Dedicated Excitation Module (DExM), a sample and target chamber and a spectrometer. WOP FemtoLAB laser emits ultrashort femtosecond (10-15 second) pulses of light at a wavelength of 1064 nm, with a pulse width of 25 fs. The laser beam is delivered to the target via the DExM and is focused onto the sample through the use of two optics. Upon impact the laser beam sublimits the material and excites the species present, producing photons which are collected by the spectrometer. The laser's high temporal and spatial resolution provide the capability to analyze heterogeneous samples and provide information on the physical and chemical properties of the sample. The unit is capable of measuring the fragmentation of molecular bonds which can be used to detect single particle composition and distribution, allowing users to gain insight into the elemental composition of a sample. Additionally, the deep ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths enable applications in fields such as forensics, life sciences, and material analysis.
