AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS / ORBOT WF 720 is a mask and wafer inspection equipment designed to optimize production processes and enhance product quality. The system provides a comprehensive analysis of wafer and mask images by combining a variety of automated visual inspection technologies. The unit uses an automated defect inspection technique called Opto-Thermal-Infra-Red-Reflectance (OTIRR) to detect both surface defects and underlying micro-structural defects of mask and wafer surfaces. Using OTIRR, defects can be detected with greater precision and accuracy than other methods such as visual inspection. AMAT WF 720 utilizes two main components: a camera machine and a main processor. The camera tool is comprised of two cameras, one located at the bottom and one located at the top, that capture wafer and mask images simultaneously. The bottom camera captures the surface images of the wafer/mask, while the top camera captures cross-sectional images of the wafer/mask structure. The main processor then uses these images to create a 3D virtual image of the wafer/mask surface. ORBOT WF 720 also uses a pattern recognition algorithm and a subpixel image processing to detect defects. The pattern recognition algorithm compares the captured mask/wafer images to a library of existing mask/wafer patterns to detect irregularities in the sample. The subpixel image processing is used to detect subtle defects that might be overlooked by the pattern recognition algorithm. Furthermore, the main processor is able to adjust the resolution and contrast of the 3D images it captures in order to enhance contrast and targeting of defects. APPLIED MATERIALS WF 720 is equipped with a variety of features specifically designed to improve the resolution and accuracy of mask and wafer inspection. Among these features are digital tracking, a feature that adjusts the resolution of the 3D images on the spot to acquire sharper images of tiny defects, and data reduction, a feature that processes large areas and reduces data to focal points in order to increase the speed of processing. Additionally, WF 720 is capable of acquiring mask data via an automatic mask transfer module, allowing for automated comparison of mask images to simulated data. The asset also has a real-time defect marking feature which marks defective areas for easy identification of single or multiple defects. AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS / ORBOT WF 720 is an efficient and accurate model for inspecting both wafer and mask surfaces, providing the highest quality images in a fraction of the time.
