GATAN K2 is a high-performance imaging microscope designed for single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM). K2 imaging microscope is capable of imaging individual, unstained biological macromolecules at molecular resolution. GATAN K2 microscope is based on field-emission technology, providing extremely high resolution and contrast images. The built-in direct-detection camera produces fast, high-data-rate streams from the cryo-EM specimen. K2 microscope offers multiple imaging modes ranging from low magnification overview images to sub-angstrom resolution images. The low-magnification overview images provide a basic view of the specimen and allow areas of interest to be located quickly. The high-resolution images of the areas of interest (up to 1.2 Šresolution in Single Particle Analysis) allow for detailed structural analysis of macromolecules. GATAN K2 microscope also features a variety of advanced features, such as a low dose imaging mode that utilizes low electron doses of 1 to 10 e-/Ų, allowing for improved image contrast and resolution without the need to use heavy metal staining agents. Additionally, a semi-automated focusing mechanism ensures accurate, reproducible focusing of specimen images. K2 microscope is integrated with a multiple robotic sample handling system, allowing for fully automated operation. The robot can transfer specimens quickly and accurately to the imaging stage, while the imaging software allows users to view, measure, and analyze images with ease. In addition to its imaging capabilities, GATAN K2 microscope can also be used for cryo-focusing, allowing for direct focusing of the cryo-EM specimen. This technique allows for extremely high-contrast imaging of particles in the range of 0.5 to 1 nm in diameter. All in all, K2 is a powerful imaging tool for Cryo-EM, capable of producing high-resolution images at a fraction of the cost of conventional electron microscopes. Its automated features and low dose imaging capabilities make it an ideal choice for researchers studying the molecular structure of biological macromolecules.
