YAMAHA i Pulse M4E is a high-performance and cost-effective PC board assembly and manufacturing equipment developed for high-volume production. It utilizes YAMAHA advanced technologies such as image recognition and computer vision with high speed robot arm and conveyors. The image recognition unit recognizes features on components and the computer vision machine inspects parts and locations prior to placing them. The robot arms can handle and place components as small as 0201 size, or as large as ICs or connectors, with precision, speed, and flexibility. The tool's production process is based on an automated material tracking asset which uses barcode scanners to track and track material throughout the manufacturing process. This allows for cost-efficient and reliable production. The board assembly can be performed in a single aisle, by having up to eight production robots working in shifts. This eliminates the need for multiple passes between the production machines and allows for higher throughput. The machine also includes a laser marking model for providing comprehensive serial number and traceability information on the bottom side of every board. The laser marking also creates a reliable way to identify and trace component programming and changing of part numbers. YAMAHA M4E provides a complete traceability and quality control equipment for digital or analog printed circuit boards through built-in vision inspection. The system's advanced capabilities also detect and address abnormalities in the surface mount pick-and-place process. It can view components on top of PCBs and detect placement errors. The unit also provides advanced defect detection such as: UV LEDs and/or stereoscopic microscopes which are used to detect solder joint defects.
