GENRAD 2281 is a versatile PC board test equipment designed for testing a wide variety of components from simple passive devices to complex integrated circuits. The system has been engineered with powerful features, such as parallel testing, comprehensive functionality with quick setup and programming flexibility. This unit supports off-line programmable testing capabilities with full support for all major test capabilities including: control, measurement, thermal, and programmable device testing. 2281 utilizes a universal instrument platform with integrated software, hardware, and instrumentation modules. The machine is designed to minimize the number of components necessary to complete the tests. It also provides automated testing of multiple DUTs (devices under-test) with a simple, single-user interface for testing boards on-site or off-site. This tool features a modular asset architecture that allows for customization, scalability, and efficiency. The model includes an amplifier/controller unit, Probe Card, Testhead, Defect Analyzer, and Model-based Analyzers. The Testhead components are able to detect electrical shorts, continuity, solder opens, and poor resistances, as well as determine the on/off state of surface mount devices and gate array components. The Model-based Analyzer(s) detect production and end-user defects at both equipment and board levels and are able to identify electrical characteristics and/or problems of individual components. The Defect Analyzer is able to identify resistor faults and verify thermal characteristics, scans up to 48 capacitor devices in less than 60 seconds, supports bus and logic capacitance measurements, and offers a high-speed parallel test capability. GENRAD 2281 is a reliable, repeatable PC board testing tool. It is a cost-effective solution that efficiently and accurately test for the following types of defects: shorts, open circuits, high-resistance faults, voltage drops, cross-talk, wide/narrow resistances, short/open leads, extreme temperature, bad ground connections, poor crosstalk, bad solder joints, floppy drive problems, and defective diodes/transistors. The system allows for rapid and automated testing of boards with consistent and precise results. In addition, the testing procedures are easily adapted to different board types reducing test time and eliminating the need for extra setup.
