CTI-CRYOGENICS 8F is a superconducting cryopump, designed to be used onboard spacecraft and satellites. It's a lightweight and compact device that makes use of cryogenics, or the process of cooling an object to extremely low temperatures known as "cryogenic temperatures", in order to extract gases from a vacuum. The 8F is designed for long-term, low-power applications, operating between 65 and 80K and requiring only 10 to 15 watts of power. The 8F consists of two principal components: a cryogenic pump head, and an active heat exchanger. The pump head is primarily composed of a set of coldhead concentric assembly (HA) chambers, and a roughing turbo-molecular pump. The assemblies are designed to provide excellent thermal isolation and low thermal conduction for faster cooldown. The active heat exchanger, meanwhile, distributes heat to an ambient environment beyond the confines of the spacecraft. The coldhead concentric assembly chambers are composed of a series of titanium and stainless steel cooling plates, separated by supports and insulators. These plates are arranged in a concentric pattern and filled with a gaseous helium vapor. This arrangement promotes efficient cooling and excellent thermal isolation. As the vapor is fed into the chamber and cooled, it produces a low-temperature environment that enables the surrounding elements to cool quickly. The 8F utilizes a roughing turbo-molecular pump, which works in tandem with the coldhead assembly to provide a gas-tight, vacuum environment. This pump helps to "rough" the space immediately surrounding the vacuum system, allowing for faster evacuation. The pump also acts as an artificial environment, enabling temperatures to remain low even when the underlying chamber experiences fluctuations. The active heat exchanger, meanwhile, serves as an important component of the 8F's cooling solution. It contains a set of aluminum fins and a set of heat-exchange channels, which disperse heat from the secure environment of the spacecraft to an ambient environment. In sum, the 8F is a capable system, constructed to provide excellent thermal insulation, reliable temperature control and a low-profile environment. Its titanium and stainless steel cooling plates, active heat exchanger and turbo-molecular pump make it an ideal choice for those looking to secure a reliable cryogenic pump on board a spacecraft or satellite.
