EDWARDS / VEECO QDP80 is a rotary pump designed primarily to evacuate a wide range of gases from ultrahigh-vacuum systems. It is a compact molecular drag pump that features an externally mounted stirling engine. It utilizes an internal cage to drive the helical rotor which produces a rotational drag force on the gas molecules. This force increases the pressure differential between the inlet and the outlet of the pump up to 160 mbar. The pump is made in an oil-free, dry-running design and is able to reach an ultimate pressure as low as ½ mbar. VEECO QDP80 pump has a low noise level of 55 dB(A) when operating in its nominal working conditions. It consumes approximately 70 Watts of power, whilst running at a speed of 6000 rpm. Additionally, this pump is highly efficient due its low operating pressure of 1.6 mbar and features a baked-on anodized aluminium body which provides excellent electrical, thermal, and vibration insulation. This versatile unit benefits from a variety of optional accessories that have been designed to meet a wide array of application requirements. Such accessories include an air filter for protection against dust particles, an oil vapor filter to reduce oil-backstreaming, and a water vapor filter to control water contamination. A test arm kit also accompanies the pump which can be used to monitor the pumping speed and lid pressure. EDWARDS QDP80 is equipped with both an electronic and mechanical auto-stop feature. The electronic auto-stop feature is triggered when there is a sudden drop in speed or pressure, and will force the pump to shut down. The mechanical auto-stop feature will shut the pump off if there is an increase in temperature. The pump is also designed with fail-safe performance and is able to resume operation after a power interruption. Overall, QDP80 is an excellent rotary pump for applications requiring high pumping speeds and excellent ultimate pressures.
