BECKMAN COULTER 951A is a versatile, residual gas analyzer (RGA) designed for the accurate measurement of trace levels of a wide variety of gases and vapors. The RGA is equipped with a quadrupole mass filter, ion source and electron multiplier, allowing it to measure total gas pressure, partial pressures and mass spectra of gases and vapors from a wide variety of sources. The number of species that can be measured is limited only by the mass resolution capabilities of the instrument. 951A utilizes a cryogenically cooled ionizer/source to ionize the gases/vapors present in the sample. An electromagnet is then used to separate the ions according to their mass-to-charge ratios. The ions are then accelerated and sent through an orifice in a vacuum chamber, where the deflection of the ions is measured by an electron multiplier. The location of ions on the electron multiplier is analyzed to determine their mass-to-charge ratios, which can be used to identify the elements and compounds present in the sample. The quadrupole mass filter provides BECKMAN COULTER 951A with high mass resolution, enabling it to accurately distinguish ions of similar mass-to-charge ratios. The detector also has a wide dynamic range, allowing for the measurement of a wide variety of chemical elements and compounds. 951A can measure total pressure, equilibrium partial pressures or mass spectra. The instrument is also equipped with an automated pumping system and can be operated as a single- or multi-point system.
