INFICON OGC 1 is a residual gas analyzer (RGA) designed for the analysis of a wide range of process and laboratory gases. This instrument can accurately detect, identify, and quantify a long list of components, including moisture, hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, as well as inert and halogen gases. It features a built-in mass spectrometer, a quadrupole mass filter, a drift tube and a filament. OGC 1 utilizes a process known as quadrupole reaction mass spectrometry (QRMS) for the analysis of gases. The instrument utilizes a 600 watt ion source to send a beam of ions through a quadrupole mass filter. This filter separates ions of differing molecular weights through an oscillating electric field, allowing the analyte components of the gas to be transmitted through the drift tube. The ions are then accelerated to pass through a filament, which emits electrons to the ions. These electrons cause ionization within the drift tube, resulting in specific breakdowns of molecules and partial charges of the gases. The amount of charged ions can be measured through a detector, producing quantitative results of the components within the gas sample. INFICON OGC 1 has been designed for specific areas of sample analysis, from process gases to complex gas mixtures. Its mass spectrometer has the ability to resolve compounds of less than 100 Daltons in size, allowing for the detection of very small components in the gas stream. Additionally, this analyzer offers features such as an audible alarm system to notify users of any issue in the process, as well as a remote control interface for connecting it to a computer or other instrument. All of these features make OGC 1 an invaluable tool for a wide variety of applications.
