DEK Galaxy APi is a precision screen printer designed for the production of highly accurate, consistent circuit assemblies. It is equipped with an embedded proprietary motion controller that drives four independent printing stages - X-Y Axis fabricating, print-slide, Squeegee and Vacuum stages. The X-Y Axis stage allows the alignment and precise placement of the substrates or workpieces in relation to the stencil frame is a very important aspect in the printing process. The API precisely positions the print heads in all four stages with a positional accuracy of +/- 0.09mm. The print-slide stage is where the actual printing occurs. Its features include a microprocessor-controlled Slur-Cut squeegee arm equipped with patented stainless-steel blades, providing a highly accurate repeatable deformation of the paste as it is drawn across the stencil into the connector channels. The patented SIP™ (Squeegee Injection Printhead) system is a unique feature not available in other screen-printing equipment. This device accurately injects paste into one of the smallest connectors available at higher speeds than any other printing process. The Squeegee stage allows the operator to adjust the force applied by the squeegee and the contact time in order to optimize the solder paste transfer from the stencil to the component. The contact force is accurately controlled by a motorized lead screw, enabling measurements from 5gf to 250gf (0.05N to 2.5N). The contact time can also be adjusted with accuracy as low as 0.1 milliseconds. The Vacuum stage is designed for printed circuit boards (PCBs) that feature unusually small surface areas such as BGA and CSP packages. The Vacuum stage features a programmable vacuum source and nozzle, which is mounted directly to the pressing unit and it is connected to a closed loop feedback control circuit. This ensures that the necessary force is applied to the component without having to adjust the pressing force manually. A unique feature of theAPI vacuum stage is the ability to adjust the void height and uniformity automatically.
