AB SCIEX / APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS / ABI / MDS SCIEX 4000 QTrap is a high-performance triple quadrupole (QqQ) linear ion trap-mass spectrometer (LIT-MS) designed for research applications in quantitative and qualitative analysis. ABI 4000 QTrap combines the mass analyzer resolution and selectivity of triple quadrupole mass spectrometry with the sensitivity, robustness, and reliability of the linear ion trap. This powerful combination allows for better peak resolution and precision to better separate and detect desired components of a sample. AB SCIEX 4000 QTrap utilizes a linear ion-trap array of three quadrupole mass analyzers in series to perform scanning, collision-induced dissociation (CID), and product ion tracking. The first quadrupole is the mass filter, which selects an ion based on its m/z and excludes all other ions from the precursor range. This quadrupole is followed by a second quadrupole, which is used to perform CID. The third and final quadrupole acts as a product ion accumulator and plays an important role in both quantification and qualitative analysis. The system also utilizes an adjustable-frequency spark oscillator to ionize samples and supplies an interaction region with a unique segmented quadrupole capable of rapid switching. This segmented quadrupole, called the Kinetic Energy Quadrupole (KEQ), increases the dynamic range of the system by allowing for rapid switching of ion trajectories in a discrete manner and reliably ionizing polar or high ionic matrix compounds. In terms of analytical performance, APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS 4000 QTrap features a high sensitivity with low limits of detection and quantitation (LODs/LOQs) and high linearity (R2 > 0.99) for quantification.
