AGILENT / HP / HEWLETT-PACKARD / KEYSIGHT 6890 is a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) used for analytical applications in chemical analysis, life sciences, and other industries. The system combines chromatography, which is used to separate compounds in mixtures and identify unknowns, with mass spectrometry, which is used to determine the molecular structure of compounds. The GC-MS includes a gas chromatograph module equipped with a Schimadzu FID (flame ionization detector). This detector uses a flame to generate ions from components in the sample, which are measured by the FID. The GC can be configured with a range of different injectors, including split/splitless, on-column, programmable temperature vaporizing, and multi-column injectors. It can be equipped with up to four columns of different stationary phases, optimized for specific compounds or classes of compounds. The temperature range for the oven and injector can range from 0°C to 400°C. The mass spectrometer module, based on electron impact ionization, can be used to detect and identify compounds in a sample, as well as to determine their concentration. The mass spectrometer features auto dynamic range, which allows it to accommodate different concentration levels in a sample without manual adjustment. It also features data dependent dynamic exhaust pulsing, which keeps the source clean by automatically pulsing the exhaust valve when needed. Data can be recorded in various formats, including single point readings, multiple scans, and full-scan spectra. It also has a built-in library of high-precision mass spectral data, which can be used to identify compounds quickly. The system also includes software to control the GC-MS and to analyze data. The Total Chromatography Manager (TCM) software controls the instrument and stores data for analysis. Data can then be transferred to other software packages for further analysis, such as the Qualitative Analysis Software (QAS) or the Quantitative Analysis Software (QAS). QAS provides data analysis capabilities, allowing users to determine peak intensity and area, integration, signal-to-noise analysis, and limit testing. Please note that automatic library identification is only possible when using the Qualitative Analysis Software. In summary, HP 6890 is a powerful and versatile GC-MS system, designed for use in a range of industrial, research and development, and clinical applications. It offers the precision and accuracy necessary for analytical applications, including the ability to detect and identify compounds, as well as to determine their concentration. The included software allows users to control the instrument and quickly and accurately analyze the data.
