APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS / ABI / MDS SCIEX Qtrap is a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer that combines detector and ion source technology in a single, highly efficient instrument. ABI Qtrap equipment is a small, mass-selective detection device that couples a triple-quadrupole (QqQ) and time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer to form a powerful combination of selectivity and sensitivity. The triple-quadrupole portion of the instrument employs a quadrupole mass filter to select a single m/z in the spectrum, for either pre- or post-ionization fragmentation. Additionally, a collision cell and quadrupole ejection lens work together to permit multiple transitions from each selected ion, and collision-induced dissociation (CID) or electron-capture dissociation (ECD) can be applied when appropriate. MDS SCIEX Qtrap system is used to analyze a wide range of samples and provides reliable quantitation of both small and large molecules. APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS Qtrap uses two sources to ionize samples: electrospray ionization (ESI) or atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). Electrospray ionization may be used to ionize almost any sample, and the APCI source is ideal for volatile and thermally labile compounds. Qtrap's exclusive ion-source technology includes a dynamic steep gradient to ensure accurate, reproducible performance and effective ionization of multiple classes of compounds. The expansive mass range of the unit (m/z 50-4000) allows for the analysis of peptides, proteins, drugs, steroids and industrial pollutants. APPLIED BIOSYSTEMS / ABI / MDS SCIEX Qtrap machine is equipped with Autoprep software, which automates the sample processing and data analysis tasks. Autoprep offers the greatest peak capacity of any triple quadrupole on the market, allowing for multiple reactions to be monitored and optimized in each run. The Autoprep software can reduce analysis time by up to four times compared to manual methods, allowing for quick and efficient data analysis.
