PERKIN ELMER / SCIEX Elan DRC II is a double-focusing mass spectrometer designed for high performance analysis and maximum confidence in results. It consists of two ion optics systems, which achieve constant performance regardless of sample size, loading speed or sample types. The instrument is composed of a high-precision quadrupole magnitude mass filter, an even more high-precision quadrupole-based double-focusing mass filter, a multi-channel detector, and advanced software and electronics. The quadrupole magnitude mass filter can accurately measure the mass/charge (m/z) ratio of isolated ions. It is designed to reduce background noise, which leads to improved signal-to-noise ratios and higher sensitivity and resolution. The even more precise quadrupole double-focusing mass filter is used to separate ions and achieve higher resolution and sensitivity. This helps to minimize interference from other ions resulting from sample complexity. The multi-channel detector is optimized to detect ions trapped in the quadrupole double-focusing mass filter. It includes a series of dynode and aperture assembly components, which enable simultaneous measurement of the intensity of each ion in the filter. The internal data acquisition system collects and stores data from the detectors and transmits it to the software to be processed. SCIEX Elan DRC II has a powerful software package, which can be used to control, analyze and calibrate the instrument. It consists of a graphic user interface as well as advanced software tools that enable data processing, optimization and integration. The software includes Peak Fitting tools that enable users to accurately identify and assign mass spectra peaks and automatically assign molecular formulas. It also includes dynamic calibration tools to ensure accuracy and long-term stability of results, as well as comprehensive reporting to enable efficient data sharing.
