THERMO SCIENTIFIC Q Exactive is a high performance spectrometer designed to provide ultra-high resolution UHRMS (Ultra High Resolution Mass Spectrometry) analysis in both qualitative and quantitative proteomics as well as metabolomics and lipidomics research. It is a fitted with a UHR-VT (ultra high resolution - variable temperature) ion source, which enables it to deliver accurate ionization with minimized fragmentation, allowing the user to obtain high resolution separation and detection of intact analytes. This spectrometer has a single quadrupole analyzer, which is optimally configured for UHRMS analysis. Furthermore, it is also built with a Bruker HCD (high capacity detector) technology that provides enhanced sensitivity and increased dynamic range in the detection of smaller molecules. Q Exactive is equipped with a range of software applications designed to facilitate the automated acquisition of data, as well as allow the user to perform processes such as automated library searching, automated report generation, and data visualization. The combination of the UHR-VT ion source and single quadrupole analyzer gives the spectrometer excellent resolution and selectivity, making it ideal for routine proteomics workflows such as label-free top-down and bottom-up workflows. THERMO SCIENTIFIC Q Exactive's intuitive ESI-FTMS interface and variable temperature hardware give it a wide range of additional capabilities applicable to small and large molecule analysis applications such as ionization energy scans, enhanced product ion scans, precursor ion selection scans, and product ion scans. Many of these scans can be tailored for increased sensitivity and dynamic range in targeted and non-targeted metabolomics. Q Exactive is also highly accurate in its data reproducibility, with a repeatability of approximately 1% RSD (relative standard deviation). The minimal amount of ion fragmentation, combined with the high resolving power capability, makes it a very robust and reliable tool for quantitative proteomics applications.
