TSP FL 2000 is a state-of-the-art Fourier-Transform Spectrometer, designed to analyze the spectral emissions of a sample. A superior measuring accuracy and resolution in this device is achieved by the combination of unique design principles, the application of a symmetric optical path, and use of a fast, optical parameterized signal processor. The spectrometer consists of three main parts: the spectrometer head, control unit, and voice synthesizer. FL 2000 uses a Michelson interferometer as its core optical design. This interferometer consists of two mirrors that reflect infrared radiation towards each other and creates interference patterns, which tend to be more linear for smaller bandwidths. This design allows for simultaneous measurement of two parameters, namely the sum and difference of their spectral components. The measurement resolution is determined by the spectral bandwidth, which is defined by the difference in path length from the two mirrors. The spectral resolution is approximately 0.3 cm−1, providing measurements of single emissions within a few hundredths of a cm−1. The control unit of TSP FL 2000 includes an IBM PC / AT compatible computer, with the acquisition and control hardware installed, as well as a 5.25 inch floppy disk drive that offers the possibility to store acquired data. The user is able to define the acquisition parameters in an easy-to-use graphical interface, which is also used to control adjusting mirrors, monitor the data acquisition, calibration of optical parameters and change instrument parameters. The voice synthesizer in the spectrometer serves as an auditory assistant, providing real-time feedback to the operator. This voice assistant can provide information about the status of the experiment and recommendations for further utilization. FL 2000 spectrometer offers a very complete way for the spectroscopic study of molecular systems, providing high-resolution data in an intuitive and practical way. Therefore, the instrument is an attractive choice when reliable spectral resolution and quantitative analysis of a sample are desired.
