Single quadruple LC/MS mass spectrometer.
WATERS / MICROMASS LCZ is a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment with a mass spectrometry (MS) detector. The combination of HPLC and MS capabilities enables WATERS LCZ to quickly and accurately identify and quantify a wide range of molecules. The system consists of components including an injectors, pumps, columns, precolumn, detectors, detectors for mass spectrometry, autosamplers, and software for data acquisition and analysis. The injectors injects the sample into a liquid chromatography column. The pumps around the liquid chromatography column allow a continuous flow of the sample through the unit. The columns separate the molecules of the sample based on their different characteristics like hydrophobicity, size, charge, and conformation. The precolumn helps to remove any impurities present in the sample before it is sent through the liquid chromatography column. The MS detector is used to identify and quantify the molecules of the sample. It is composed of an ion source, a mass analyzer, an electronic multiplier and a data machine. The ion source produces positive and negative ions from the sample molecules. The ions then travel through the mass analyzer, which sorts the ions based on their mass/charge ( m/z) ratio. The sorted ions are then amplified through an electronic multiplier and sent to a data tool for acquisition and analysis. An optional autosampler is used to automate the sample injection as well as the multiple runs of the same sample. The software used with MICROMASS LCZ includes data acquisition and analysis software, which can be used to detect molecules in the sample and display the results in a graphical format. The software also allows the user to set up multiple runs, as well as set up instrument parameters. Overall, LCZ is a powerful tool for the analysis of a wide range of molecules. It is an ideal asset for biochemists, food scientists, environmental scientists and pharmaceutical researchers in order to identify, quantify and verify the composition of samples.
