WATERS / MICROMASS Q-TOF API-US is an advanced quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) mass spectrometer which commonly analyzes and quantitates biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, and metabolites, in both positive and negative ion modes. WATERS Q-TOF API-US utilizes a hybrid quadrupole/time-of-flight system to increase the speed and sensitivity of mass spectrometry analysis. The quadrupole is used to isolate a wide variety of sample components from the analyzer, while the time-of-flight (TOF) analyzer separates the sample components based on their mass to charge ratio. The mass spectrometer has a dedicated electrospray (ESI) source that ionizes analyte samples prior to mass spectrometry analysis. The electrospray ionization also 'softens' compounds that would otherwise be too fragile for ionization, weakening the bonds that would be otherwise too strong to be broken apart by collision-induced dissociation. MICROMASS Q-TOF API-US has a wide linear dynamic range and can detect detect ions over four orders of magnitude. This allows for the detection of both low and high-abundance compounds in a given sample. The high-resolution capabilities of Q-TOF API-US enable the distinction between molecules of similar masses that have different structures, (isomer recognition). This distinction is especially useful for metabolite and drug target identification applications. Additional features of WATERS / MICROMASS Q-TOF API-US include: unattended 24/7 operation, a robust sample introduction system with autosampler, and a mass analyzer with broadband ion detection from m/z 50-2500. Together, the features of WATERS Q-TOF API-US make it an ideal spectrometer for a variety of research applications, such as drug metabolism studies, food safety analysis, environmental sampling, proteomics, and more.
