WATERS / MICROMASS Quattro Micro is a second-generation high-resolution analytical spectrometer designed for mass spectrometric analysis of pharmaceuticals, bioproducts, chemicals, and other small molecules. It utilizes a high-voltage quadruple analyzer to provide the highest mass resolution available in a mass spectrometer. WATERS Quattro Micro has two types of mass analyzers: the high-resolution quadrupole analyzer and the double-focusing reflectron ion trap. The quadrupole analyzer provides exceptional resolution and accurate mass measurements, regardless of the complexity of the sample mixture. The analyzer includes two pairs of orthogonal rods, between which the ions travel. A radio frequency (RF) voltage is applied between two opposite rods, while a second DC voltage is applied between the other two. This configuration creates a quadrupole field with an electric field along each of the four rods. This field allows ions to be separated according to their mass-to-charge ratio. The ion trap mass analyzer is an innovative "box-in-box" design that combines both reflectron and sector elements, providing excellent capability to select and collect ions of specific mass-to-charge ratios. ions travel around the reflectron and through the sector field.
