WATERS / MICROMASS XEVO TQD is a state-of-the-art tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS/MS) combining high-sensitivity and accuracy with remarkable resolving power. It is designed for the detection and quantification of small to large molecules which are often studied in areas such as pharmacology and proteomics. WATERS XEVO TQD consists of a three-stage quadrupole instrument and an electron multiplier to identify and measure the abundance of different ions. The first quadrupole functions as an ion trap, allowing the entrance of ions from the sample, and then acts as a mass filter to filter out ions other than the target ions. The first quadrupole is then followed by a collision cell, where a specified gas pressure breaks apart the isolated target ions and fragments them further. The second quadrupole acts as a precise mass filter, allowing only the desired fragment ions to pass into the third quadrupole. The third quadrupole contains an electron multiplier which measures the abundance of the ions. MICROMASS XEVO TQ-D offers an advanced, linear ion trap design to improve the sensitivity and resolution of ions entering the instrument. The combination of a low-vacuum, linear quadrupole configuration allows the use of a higher gas pressure within the collision cell and more efficient collisional fragmentation of ions, thus enhancing the sensitivity of the instrument. In addition, WATERS XEVO TQ-D has a number of user-friendly capabilities such as auto-tune, a dedicated user interface, a built-in self-test system, and automatic sample introduction.
