HEADWAY EC 100 is a photoresist equipment used to create microscale electronic circuitry on the surface of a substrate. This system enables the rapid development of reliable and precise miniaturized electronic components. It does this by using a photo-initiated etching process in which the substrate material is selectively exposed to a photoresist, which can be removed in later stages to form very precise patterns. EC 100 unit is comprised of a number of components; a liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor, a quartz halogen lamp, an electronic stepper motor, a computer with an electronic interface, a high-pressure metering machine and a photoresist. The entire tool is controlled by the computer, which is linked to the LCD monitor, allowing the user to adjust any parameters at any point in the imaging process. Once all of the components are set up, a substrate is placed in the metering asset and the metering model is used to place an exact, predetermined quantity of photoresist on the substrate. The metering equipment, along with the stepper motor and quartz halogen lamp, is then used to expose the photoresist by irradiating it with a desired set of wavelengths. This exchange of light energy causes a photo-induced polymerization reaction in the photoresist, which causes it to harden into a desired pattern. The now hardened photoresist is then mechanically removed from the substrate surface to create the desired electronic circuit pattern. In order to ensure perfect adhesion and binding of the photoresist, the substrate is then heated in a controlled environment, to eliminate any remaining surface contamination.
