MTI FLEXIFAB is a photoresist system developed by Manufacturing Technology, Inc. (MTI) for creating high-precision features with fast turnarounds. It employs ultra-violet laser imaging, allowing for the fabrication of features with high accuracy and resolution. The system utilizes a UV laser to etch or transfer predetermined patterns on a specified substrate. It is primarily used for fabricating microelectronic components and other precision components requiring high-resolution features. Any number of substrates can be used, including dielectric, ceramic, rubber, and various metals, among many others. FLEXIFAB photoresist layer is composed of a photoactive layer sandwiched between several layers of protective coatings and a substrate. The laser energy is absorbed by the photoactive layer and causes a local chemical reaction and a deformation of the polymer structure. This deformation is used to form the features on the substrate. After the laser exposure, the exposed areas become soluble and can be etched away. The unexposed areas remain inert and form the negative image of the laser pattern on the substrate. This allows for the fabrication of features down to one-micron sizes with uniformity and excellent adhesion. For further post-processing, MTI FLEXIFAB also offers special processes such as decoupling and connection coating, solder masking, and wet etching. It also supports multi-layer fabrication up to six-microns-thick. Several types of placement options are also available, including metal-graphite, direct bond copper, and CTE-matched metal stack. The overall advantages of FLEXIFAB system include low cost, fast turnarounds, precise alignments, high resolution, and excellent adhesion. It is suitable for a variety of applications, including MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) technology, analog circuitry, photonic components, and other microsystems. The technology is highly flexible, allowing for customization of specific processes to enable the fabrication of a wide range of components with unique properties.
