AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS 0010-09010 is a reactor consisting of a cylindrical reaction chamber, which is typically approximately 5 feet in length and can be up to one-half foot in diameter. This reactor is designed for loading via the top and also equipped with a lift system to enable easy loading. It can accommodate wafers up to 8" in diameter. This reactor is composed of a body that encloses the reaction chamber and is maintained with a range of pressure, temperature and gas levels. The chamber is gas-tight and is designed to prevent cross-contamination from other process steps. Additionally, the reactor can be customized with various configurations to suit the customer's needs. A substrate (or sample) is introduced into the reactor via the top feed tube and is subsequently lifted to the bottom of the processing chamber and then loaded onto the raise platform. A rotating revolver-style heater is then used to heat and pump out process gases, while also controlling temperature and pressure, which are maintained by a controller. After the substrate has been processed, it is evacuated out to the vacuum manifold, where product collection containers can be attached. The non-vacuum components of the reactor are constructed from stainless steel, while different materials are used for the vacuum-compatible flanges and connectors. The vacuum components typically include a welded stainless steel body with an aluminum blade composed of ceramic inserts, which enable a better seal and is designed to decrease contamination. The reactor also has a variety of safety and monitoring measures in place, such as, pressure sensors, oxygen/combustible gas sensors, and cooling water sensors. Additionally, the reactor provides an audible and visible warning in case of an over-temperature or an over pressure situation. Furthermore, the reactor offers an automated system to shut it off in the case of an emergency.
