AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS / AKT Endura II is an advanced, computer-controlled, chemical vapour deposition (CVD) reactor. The reactor is used for the deposition of diamond and diamond-like carbon (DLC) films. It is equipped with a hot-wall susceptor, allowing for the endothermic deposition of different types of materials. The endothermy allows for improved film properties in either inherently un-stabilized or hydrogen-stabilized diamond and diamond-composite systems. AKT Endura II enables the deposition of any number of disordered phases of hydrocarbon films based on a single, fixed gas feed. This includes materials such as diamond, amorphous diamond, amorphous hydrogenated carbon and other polymeric graphitic materials. The CVD process involves the chemical reaction of two gasses, typically a hydrocarbon and an oxidizer and AMAT Endura II is designed to enable precise control of the substrates on which the materials are deposited. Endura II uses a proprietary AKT dual-shaft cold wall rotary susceptor to facilitate homogenous film growth. The dual-shaft cold wall bell-jar and topology of the susceptor avoids many of the common issues faced in diamond deposition. This helps to ensure a uniform surface topology that is beneficial for application in areas requiring highly ordered and robust surfaces. A unique feature of APPLIED MATERIALS Endura II is its incorporation of a closed loop gas in-line monitoring system, along with a pre-programmed gas-mixing module. The system offers several advantages such as precise and stable gas mixing, allowing for precise control of the deposition rate as well as improved uniformity of the film. The constants monitoring of the gas mix within the reactor allows for the constant adjustment and fine tuning of the deposition process in order to achieve the desired thin film deposition characteristics. AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS / AKT Endura II also incorporates the use of a User Interface (UI). This allows for remote and easy access to control settings, advanced automation of all process parameters, and real-time monitoring and evaluation of process conditions. The UI also allows the operator to create and save recipes specific to their quality control requirements. AKT Endura II is capable of supporting a wide variety of physio-chemical processes, including chemical vapour deposition, laser ablation deposition and sputtering processes. Due to its advanced features, AMAT Endura II is widely used in a variety of industries, which includes, but is not limited to, semiconductor, aerospace, biomedical, nanomaterials, and automotive.
