AMAT / APPLIED MATERIALS Producer is an advanced reactor technology made for Plasma Enhanced Molecular Beam Epitaxy (PEMBE). The reactor enables semiconductor device development and production to occur on an industrial scale, allowing for high-volume production of devices that meet stringent semiconductor device requirements. The reactor is designed to provide a high level of process control, enabling device production to proceed quickly, with the highest levels of device yield and efficiency. AMAT Producer consists of several components, including a multi-dimensional reactor chamber, with a radio frequency (RF) coil, a planar cordierite susceptor, and a chuck. The highly automated control software is designed to automate the process of device production and provides a variety of settings such as gas flow rate, deposition temperature, and other device parameters. The process parameters can be adjusted via a web-based interface, providing users with the ability to adjust device parameters on the fly and to monitor the progress of the device production. The chassis of the reactor is composed of an aluminum frame with a stainless steel exterior, making it lightweight and durable. This frame is then filled with several components made of high performing ceramic. The evacuated chamber has a temperature range of between 50-250 degrees Celsius with a high pressure of 10-13 Torr, ideal for the the reaction conditions that occur within plasma enhanced molecular beam epitaxy. An RF coil supplies the necessary energy to the substrate which then reacts with the source gas(es) which is introduced into the chamber. The RF coil is also used to provide a magnetic field field which is used to shape the electron and ion beams of the reaction under study. The planar cordierite susceptor is the platform within the reactor that the wafer lies on for the entire device development. Because of the high-temperature environment the reactor chamber, the susceptor must have the ability to withstand the heat, which is why AMAT produce susceptors using cordierite ceramic, a material that has low thermal expansion qualities. This material also provides high levels of thermal shock and strength, making it a great choice for use in this type of device production. Overall, APPLIED MATERIALS Producer is an advanced reactor technology that provides an industrially relevant platform for device production and process development. By providing a highly controllable parameter set, the device produces a consistent, high yield product that meets exacting requirements. It's lightweight, durable design and robust components allows the device to be maintained to exacting standards and its automated control software reduces the amount of manual intervention required to get the best possible device performance.
