ASM Epsilon 2000 is a high-performance nuclear reactor designed for both electricity generation and desalination. It has an output of up to 2000 megawatts and is suitable for industrial, commercial, and utility applications. Its design is based on the proven and reliable technology of pressurized water reactors used in many nuclear power plants worldwide. Epsilon 2000 has a three-loop design with three steam generators, with the core reactor pressure vessel located in the centre. ASM Epsilon 2000 uses enriched uranium dioxide fuel which is loaded on 24 vertically-arranged fuel assemblies. Each fuel assembly is 50cm high and 17cm in diameter and made up of 90 fuel pins, each 7.1mm in diameter. The fuel in the reactor is managed by a control rod mechanism, consisting of two driveshafts at the top and bottom. The control rods move a set of 48 separate horizontal blades that control the power levels in the core. The reactor coolant system consists of two independent primary loops, each containing two pumps and a steam generator. The primary coolant is maintained at a pressure of 155 bar. The primary cooling loops pass water through the core, the steam generators, the condenser, and then back through the core in a closed loop system. The secondary loops pass natural convection cooled water to the main condensers. In the event of an emergency, Epsilon 2000 has a passive safety system which is designed to shut down the reactor in the shortest possible time. This is achieved by the rapid movement of the control rods and the injection of boron rods into the core.
