ASM Epsilon 2000 is a type of nuclear reactor designed for applications in plant engineering, research, and power generation. It is a type of light-water reactor, a category of nuclear reactors which use normal water in either its liquid or steam form as a moderator and a coolant. Epsilon 2000 operates with a fuel inventory of enriched uranium dioxide pellets, contained in pressure tubes within the reactor core. The core measures 8 meters in diameter, while the total height of the core reaches 11 meters from the bottom to the top of the reactor pressure vessel with a maximum pressurization of up to 150 bar. ASM Epsilon 2000's design provides high reliability and safety while maximizing economic efficiency. It utilizes numerous safety systems, which are designed to immediately shut the reactor down in case of potential threats to operations. These design features include specially designed biological protection, improved reactor and turbine protection, integrated self-actuating safety systems, and guarantees for operational safety. In addition, the design offers improved performance with a thermal output of 1292 MWt and gross electrical output of 463 MWt. Epsilon 2000's control rods regulate the fission process of the reactor by contacting the nuclear fuel pellet. After the fusion process has been accomplished, the control rods are withdrawn by a fuel rod handling device, or FRHT, located in the top of the reactor. This ensures that the equilibrium of reactivity in the reactor is maintained. At the core of the reactor is a thermal shield, which reduces the thermal flux density in the core and is designed to hold the highest temperature when the core is operating at its highest power level. To cool the reactor core, ASM Epsilon 2000 employs a primary loop of two natural circulation pumps to circulate the pressurized primary coolant, which is typically light water, under pressure in the core. Two valves regulate the circulation of the coolant, while a number of steam generators are connected, allowing the primary coolant to give off heat to a secondary loop, turning it to steam automatically. This steam is then transferred to turbines to produce electricity. Overall, Epsilon 2000 is a reliable and safe light-water reactor designed for a range of applications in plant engineering, research, and power generation. Its main features include a fuel inventory of enriched uranium dioxide pellets, two regulating control valves, specially designed biological protection systems, improved reactor and turbine protection, integrated self-actuating safety systems, thermal output of 1292 MWt and gross electrical output of 463 MWt, and a thermal shield to reduce the thermal flux density in the core.
