ASM Epsilon 2000 is a light water cooled nuclear reactor that is used for the production of electricity. It is a Generation III reactor utilizing pressurized water reactor (PWR) technology and is designed for 15 to 20-year operating life cycles. Epsilon 2000 reactor utilizes moderation by heavy water (D2O) in combination with enriched uranium fuel (U235) that is fired in cylindrical fuel assemblies. The reactor core contains 23 fuel assemblies, and 3 additional assemblies located outside of the core, that perform various functions related to criticality control and neutron flux narrowing. The reactor operates by a pressurized coolant water loop that is constantly circulated throughout the reactor core. The coolant is admitted at high pressure into the core, and is exchanged with the secondary side through the steam generator. This exchange of fluid maintains a predictable pressure within the core and helps to ensure the stability of the nuclear reaction. The cooled water is then pumped out to feed power turbines and generators before being sent back to the core. The thermal efficiency of the reactor is improved by a number of control rods inserted into the core to regulate the nuclear reaction. These control rods are automatically adjusted to maintain the desired neutron flux and reactivity level within the reactor. Additionally, ASM Epsilon 2000 contains a number of monitoring and safety systems that allow for precise monitoring and control of the reactor conditions. These systems also alert operators of any irregularities and can activate shutdown systems to safely shut down the reactor in the event of an emergency. Epsilon 2000 is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly reactor that can provide reliable, safe and affordable nuclear electricity. It is considered to be an excellent choice for power production in remote locations, as it can supply reliable electricity for many years without the need for refueling or maintenance.
