ASM Epsilon E3200 is a light water reactor designed for research and educational purposes. Its main features include a small, modular design with flexibility in both its operational parameters and fuel type. The reactor core is comprised of stainless steel clad uranium oxide fuel elements housed in a stainless steel pressure vessel with an integral primary coolant loop. The primary loop is composed of an Active Fuel Component(AFC) , which is designed to provide precise fuel element positions and temperature management, along with a Heat Transfer Equipment(HTS) to efficiently manage heat transfer from the reactor core to the primary coolant. The reactor core is surrounded by Lead-Bismth (Pb-Bi) shielding, which helps to protect against radiation exposure. Epsilon E3200 reactor operates under natural circulation and is rated at 3 MW thermal. The reactor utilizes an array of control rods and an accumulator drum to safely control power level. Control rod movements are controlled by a precision scanner (which provides digital control) or by manual positioning with a hand wheel. Additionally, the reactor can be configured to operate in either steady or pulsed operation. The reactor design also includes a secondary cooling system which consists of a high pressure pump and high flow recirculation lines. Secondary cooling is used to prevent fuel element over-temperature, help manage heat distribution across the pressure vessel, and also help to cool reactor components after reactor shutdown. Safety is of paramount importance in a nuclear reactor and ASM Epsilon E3200 is no exception. The reactor features a variety of safety features and systems. It has a fail-safe operation where, in the event of an incident, power is automatically reduced or shutdown. It has triple emergency shut-off systems and a leak-proof core shutdown unit. Additionally, the reactor is equipped with devices to detect and control reactivity through passive and active measures, including a Scram control machine which rapidly scrambles the control rod assembly to rapidly reduce reactivity. Overall, Epsilon E3200 reactor is an excellent choice for educational and research purposes. With its small, modular design and versatile operational characteristics, it provides a robust platform to explore current and future reactor designs and technologies.
