BAKMA DLC (Dehydration and Low Carbon) is a nuclear reactor designed to combine the benefits of both high and low carbon fuels for enhanced reactor performance. The reactor's core is divided into two halves, each containing fuel materials of different carbon concentrations. The upper part of the core is configured to operate with a high concentration of carbon, while the lower part is designed to operate with a low concentration. When both parts of the core are in operation, they form a hybrid core, allowing the reactor to operate in both low and high carbon conditions. The design of DLC reactor allows for the maximum utilization of the self-produced hydrogen in the fuel cycle, since the upper part of the core burns the hydrogen-rich fuel and the bottom part of the core burns the low-carbon fuel, which contains less hydrogen. This helps to generate a more efficient cycle of fuel elements, leading to higher energy production. The lower part of the core also helps to reduce the operating pressure of the reactor, as the burning of hydrogen-rich fuel generates more pressure at the core. The core has several additional features that improve reactor performance. For example, the core has an annular arrangement that allows for better flow of neutron radiation between the upper and lower zones, and a "surface flux modifier" that provides a more uniform radiation profile in the central zone of the core. Additionally, the height and diameter of the lower zone of the core are optimized to help reduce the critical power in the reactor and reduce the possibility of fuel element degradation. In order to ensure safety, BAKMA DLC reactor has several measures in place. For instance, the reactor is equipped with emergency shutdown systems that shut down the reactor in the event of an emergency. It also has a safety factor designed to control the amount of coolant that is needed to cool the core in case of an accident. Furthermore, the reactor has a containment vessel that is designed to contain any radiation or hazardous materials that are released in an accident. Overall, DLC reactor is a advanced design which combines both the advantages of high and low carbon fuels for enhanced reactor performance. Its efficient design enables high energy production while also providing the necessary safety measures to protect the public.
