CANON / QUESTER APT 4800 is a high-performance nuclear reactor system that is capable of producing exceptionally clean, safe and reliable electricity. Operating at a thermal power of 4800 kWth this small modular reactor (SMR) design is one of the most efficient and cost-effective options for nuclear power generation. The reactor utilizes cutting-edge technology and features a vertically-oriented pressurized water reactor (PWR) core. The reactor core contains fuel assemblies of uranium dioxide enriched to 3.5-4% uranium-235. These fuel assemblies are configured in a lattice pattern with four-linearly arranged vertical on-site coolant loops surrounding the core. This design allows for gradual fuel consumption and discharge of long-life spent fuel bundles. The coolant for the reactor is water that is forced through the core by large four-pole pumps. At a pressure of approximately 16.6 MPa and temperature of 315 degrees Celsius, the forced water creates steam inside the reactor, which drives a turbine connected to a generator. The generator produces alternating current (AC) that can be used directly to power electrical loads. In addition to producing electricity, CANON APT 4800 is designed with safety features that ensure safe and reliable performance. The reactor features a redundant safety shutdown system and a containment vessel, both of which are designed to protect against the potential for adventitious release of radioactive materials. Sensors monitor the conditions of the reactor and the environment surrounding it. The power output of the reactor is adjustable and can be managed efficiently to meet various demands. QUESTER APT 4800 is well suited for providing power to small communities, businesses, and industries. Lastly, the reactor is generally maintained with minimal operation and personnel requirements. In terms of operation and maintenance, the reactor is also highly cost-effective.
